Supplier Spotlight: Simply Sunflower

April 1, 2016

We are proud to get our sunflower oil from Simply Sunflower in Ord, NE. They are a small Nebraska company owned and operated by Alan Koelling. Alan embodies just about everything we stand for: He works hard to make something honest and healthy from the materials available to him. On top of that, he’s just a great guy.

We love the fact that when we need more sunflower oil, we drive our truck to his farm, we load it up and drive back to our lab in downtown Benson. There’s no middle man. There’s no international shipping. In May, we are planning to buy another drum of sunflower oil and hope to catch Alan during the farm’s annual cattle branding weekend.

We use sunflower oil as the conditioning and moisturizing component in our soap. It is one of the primary ingredients in our traditional tallow bars and will be an important ingredient in all of our liquid and vegan soaps, as well.

41% of our sunflower oil by weight is made up of vitamin E. That is a great thing for our soap and most importantly for your skin. Instead of adding some vitamin E to our recipe just so we can tell you it’s good for your skin, we look for ingredients that are naturally packed with good stuff in the first place.

To learn more about Simply Sunflower, or sunflower oil in general, check out their website.
